Congolese Soukous Superstar And "King Of Kwassa Kwassa", Kanda Bongo Man, To Rock Cape Town Nu World Festival

With easy rolling vocals and upbeat, cheerful and rhythmic tracks, he is one of the key figures of African music; the legendary Kanda Bongo Man, is coming to Cape Town for an exclusive performance at this year’s Cape Town Nu World Festival.

“If Kanda Bongo Man doesn’t make you want to dance, call an ambulance. You’re dead,” his followers would say. With soulful solos, this talented musician has transformed Congolese music and his form of soukous and given birth to the kwassa kwassa dance rhythm, where the hips move back and forth while the hands move to follow the hips. Kanda Bongo Man is now hailed as the king of "kwassa kwassa".

Kanda Bongo Man played a significant role in popularising Congolese music across Africa, Europe and the UK in the 1980’s. He appeared at WOMAD and was championed by John Peel. The Bongo Man still tours frequently in Europe and the United States and it’s a real privilege for such a pioneer of African music to play at the Cape Town Nu World Festival 2015.

The concert will be held at the Cape Town City Hall and hordes of exuberant music lovers are expected to take to the dance floor for two days of Nu World sounds. The festival aims to bring together people in the shared enjoyment of live inspiring music.
