Terry Pheto Set To Become The First South African Actress To Play Winnie Madikizela-Mandela




In very important 'it's about damn time' casting news, South African actress Terry Pheto is set to become the first local thespian to play one of the continent's most powerful women in history, Winnie Madikizela-Mandela. The actor/filmmaker will be playing the struggle icon in BET's upcoming six-hour series titled, 'Madiba', alongside Laurence Fishburne.

The series will also feature South African actors such as Hlomla Dandala, Katlego Danke, Pallance Dladla and Sdumo Mtshali.

The 35 year-old rose to fame for her role as Miriam in 2005 Oscar-winning feature film Tsotsi. She has since starred in local productions, American soap opera, The Bold and the Beautiful in addition to playing Mandela's first wife Evelyn Mase in Long Walk To Freedom.

In 2015, she made her producing debut in her anticipated film 'Ayanda', which went on to bag numerous awards and screenings at renowned film festivals internationally. The film also scored a major distribution deal in the US by American director/film marketer/screenwriter film distributor Ava DuVernay.

Pheto recently signed to Hollywood talent agency, Paradigm. Her star keeps shining while she takes on international domination telling African stories.
