Preparations for the international culinary event Restaurant Week are in full swing. In just under three weeks, over 75 restaurants have enthusiastically registered for participation. With names like The Tasting Room, The Restaurant at Newton Johnson (winner Best Dish Award 2014), The Black Bamboo,Planet at the Mount Nelson Hotel, Central One and Buitenverwachting (winner Best Restaurant 2014), the buzz certainly has started. Restaurant Week takes place from 22 October until 1 November 2015 and online booking starts 1 October at 10 AM sharp, on www.restaurantweek.co.za.
Among the restaurants that have signed up are top restaurants like:
• Johannesburg: Central One, Balata, Piccolo Mondo, Hashi and Sel et Poivre
• Pretoria: The Black Bamboo, Al Fiume, Nuvo Cuisine, De Kloof and Prosopa
• Cape Town: Planet at the Mount Nelson Hotel, Café Dijon, Buitenverwachting, Kitima and Borage
• Winelands: The Tasting Room, Glen Carlou, Newton Johnson, Bosman’s and Durbanville Hills
Their chefs are currently busy preparing a special menu which diners can try out at set prices: only R95 for a 2-course lunch menu and R175 for a 3-course dinner menu. Selected restaurants indicated witha charge R50 extra.
International success
Restaurant Week has been a success in the US, Europe and Asia for many years. Since its launch in South Africa two years ago, it has proven to also excite South African foodies.
Many have already enjoyed a Restaurant Week dining experience at one (or more!) of the country’s most popular restaurants. In the following weeks, the participating restaurants for the 2015 edition will be announced on Facebook and Twitter.
Enthusiasts can register as a VIP on www.restaurantweek.co.za to ensure timely notifications about promotions and extra’s, like priority access to the booking system. Restaurants can still sign on for participation.
