Africa Month Programme: Africa Month Festival Of Ideas & Cultural Exchange Kicks-off In Limpopo




The Department of Arts and Culture and Limpopo Department of Sport, Arts and Culture will launch the Africa Month Film Festival as part of the Africa Month Celebrations programme on Saturday, 09 May 2015 in Polokwane, Limpopo. The launch will include screening of Elelwani, the first Tshivenda feature film selected as South Africa’s Oscar entry in 2014. The film festivals will also take place in Northwest and Northern Cape Province as part of promoting Africa’s diversity culture and Language. The viewing is open to the public.

The film festival opening will be followed by the launch of the Annual National Archives Week programme which will take place on Monday, 11 May 2015 in Polokwane. The year’s programme will be hosted under the theme “Archives our Living Past” to highlight Archives and Records Services as the memory bank of the nations where our past is preserved for present access for all. As part of Africa Month Celebrations, 13 countries from different parts of the continent such as Congo Brazzaville, Botswana, Namibia, Ghana, Senegal, Sudan, Burundi, Egypt, Algeria, Tanzania, Western Sahara and Mozambique are expected to participate in the archives week programme.

The daily programme will take place from 11 to 15 May 2015; Learners across the province will get a chance to visit the provincial archives in Polokwane, Makwerela, Giyani and Lebowakgomo respectively. These will include presentations on archival functions, exhibition viewing and tours, panel discussions on records management and preservations, etc.
