Word Is..

By Mbongeni Nomkonwana

Word Is…..is that Ingonyama is hitting Cape Town shores, and he has decided to bring together some of his closest friends (who just happen to be the best poets the Mother City has to offer) in the first ever cross-platform/multi movement extravaganza.

Word Is.. will probably be one of the best poetry shows to be staged in Cape Town in 2014. When 5 of Cape Town’s finest and fiery movements Lingua Franca, Radikal Xpression, Exodus Clan, Poetics and RAW collaborate on a project, you are guaranteed  a unique, powerful, vibrant, entertaining and
thought provoking poetic experience that will change your life. Behind the scenes these movements are accompanied by great minds and poets like Kyle Louw, Ziqu Profound and Lindokuhle Mngoma to help put together what promises to be a great show.

Ziqu Profound who is very gifted musician is artistic director of both shows, based on his past shows like Confession of Wom(b)men we anticipate another masterpiece from him.
When I asked Khulani Maseko(Ingonyama) why he decided to come back to Cape Town to do the show and what it meant to him this is what he said, “ Cape Town made me do it. I had been missing that Cape flair. I Had To Do It. I owed it to the City for Mothering me. I owed it to myself, to my friends in Cape Town, to Flintsky and the Durban community at large to see I found gold in Cape Town. I brought in Flintsky “Celumusa Mthethwa" along firstly for him to experience the incredible wonders of the Cape Performing art scene. And also for the Cape community to marvel at Flintsky's incredibly amazing word weaving, emotion drawing, picture painting lyrical performing abilities.”

Word is will feature more than 15 poets and musicians which include (Durban)Ingonyama ,  Flintsky, (Cape Town) Dejavu Tafari, Koleka Putuma(South Africa’s first National Slam Champion), Sipho Kotoba Ndebele, Naledi Raba, Josh, Anele Kose, Café Society, Kyle Louw, Lingua Franca, Mfundo Ntobongwana, Siya Njica, Solitude, Sinazo Black Chick Peter, Sonwai Amathongo, Sunshine,Lindokuhle Mngoma, Lebo.
