MTV Shuga Premiers Shuga Radio Series

By Stella WaAfrika

MTV Shuga is undeniably one of the most relevant entertaining television drama whose purpose is to educate and inform the youth about HIV/AIDS.
The show returned to our screens last year 1st December which also happens to be World AIDS Day, for its third season directed by Nigerian acclaimed novelist and playwright, Biyi Bandele and wrapped up earlier this year. It was shot in  Nigeria with a predominantly Nigerian cast hence why it is dubbed, 'Shuga Naija'.

Their mission is to spread the word as much as possible. I love how they're trying to penetrate through all forms of media. Their latest medium is radio. The first episode of Shuga Radio Series aka Shuga Naija Radio premiered on Friday, 13th June  on Unilag FM at 20:00 and City105.1 FM, Tuesday 17th June at 19:45.

If you're not in Nigeria, worry not, you can also listen via their website Shuga TV.

About Shuga Radio Naija

It’s a new radio drama series set in the fictional rural village of “Chikota”, Nigeria. Trust us na, we no go dull; you’ll be hooked within the first 5 minutes! Shuga Radio Naija is unlike any other radio series. With characters such as Patricia, who is the fine-girl no-pimples prefect, and her best friend Roli, a fun-loving fearless girl. Then there’s Soji, the school drop-out, always looking for the quickest way to make it big and Bitrus, the school crush. Shuga Radio Naija explores the ups and downs of a group of students and their families and the challenging decisions they must make. You should know by now that there is nowhere Shuga won’t go, from flirting and sex to troublesome relationships and domestic violence—we always have the hard-hitting storylines you love.

As long as HIV/AIDS continues to be part of society, we can never have enough stories addressing issues pertaining to the pandemic.

Shout out to Team MTV Shuga.
