Globally Acclaimed Visual Artist Dr. Esther Mahlangu Conferred With Third Honorary Doctorate By Tshwane University Of Technology

Another one! As her 87th birthday draws nearer, Dr Esther Mahlangu is busy getting her flowers while she can still smell them (as she should); and it is a delight to watch.

The multi-award winning Cultural Icon and Custodian was conferred with an honorary doctorate by the Tshwane University of Technology on 25th October for her impeccable visual artistry and cultural preservation.

According to the University's news platform TUT News, the multi-award winning visual artist was awarded the degree of Doctor of Arts and Design (Honoris Causa) in the Faculty of Arts and Design in recognition of capturing the imagination of the world with her unique Ndebele art, and for her tireless efforts to ensure that this art form, with its rich history, is preserved for future generations.

This is not her first doctorate, in 2018, the globally acclaimed artist received an honorary doctorate from the University of Johannesburg for "her legacy as a cultural entrepreneur, skilfully negotiating local and global" and she was also a recipient of another doctorate by Durban University of Technology in the same year.

Conjabulations, Dr. Mahlangu. Keep smelling your flowers, you deserve.
