Uganda's Doreen Baingana And Sudanese Leila Donkor Are Among Rockefeller Foundation Bellagio Center Artists in Residency Award Laureates





The Africa Centre is pleased to announce its Rockefeller Foundation Bellagio Center Artists in Residency award recipients.

This residency is focused exclusively on highly accomplished scholars, artists, thought leaders, policymakers, and practitioners who share in the Foundation’s mission to ‘promote the well-being of humanity around the world.’ The Bellagio Center wants to enable individuals that are shaping both the thinking and catalyzing action around the Foundation’s strategic goals of building resilience and advancing more inclusive economies. This residency includes a month at the Bellagio Center and round trip airfare from the artist’s country.

After reviewing an extraordinarily talented applicant pool, 15 artists were shortlisted and submitted to the Bellagio Center. The following artists were selected from this list to participate:

Godfried Donkor | Visual Arts | Ghana/UK

Leila Aboulela | Literature | Sudan

Mark Gevisser | Literature | South Africa

Mshai Mwangola | Multidisciplinary | Kenya

Njabulo Ndebele | Literature | South Africa

Yaba Badoe | Film | Ghana/UK
