African Literary Giant Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie Awarded Johns Hopkins Honorary Doctorate

African literary giant Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie has been awarded a Johns Hopkins honorary doctorate. The Nigerian writer is one of seven global achievers to be awarded an honorary doctorate for their outstanding contribution and inspiration in their respective fields of expertise. The announcement was made on May 18 at Royal Farms Arena.

American filmmaker Spike Lee, president of The Rockefeller Foundation, Judith Rodin and 2004 Nobel Prize winner, Richard Axel are among other recipients of the prestigious accolade.

The Americanah author previously earned a master’s degree from Johns Hopkins' Writing Seminars in 2003 and also won a MacArthur Foundation "Genius Grant" in 2008.
