Akon Launches Solar Academy To Help Provide Electricity To Millions Of Africans

Akon is using his platform to benefit millions of Africans.... #WINNING!

The Senegalese-American singer recently launched a Solar Academy to help provide electricity to millions of people in Africa through his initiative dubbed Akon Lighting Africa.

Speaking at the second United Nations Sustainable Energy for All Forum in New York last week, Akon and his team stated, "We have the sun and innovative technologies to bring electricity to homes and communities. We now need to consolidate African expertise."

They further added, "We expect the Africans who graduate from this center to devise new, innovative, technical solutions."
"With this Academy, we can capitalize on Akon Lighting Africa and go further."

The academy is set to open this year in Bamako, Mali.

Akon's role and involvement on the continent is something to be admired. His work often reminds me of the ideology of Back To Africa Movement. He may be American by socialisation but he hasn't forgotten his roots; he continues to uphold the notion of Africa Rising.

Action over lip service. You go Akon!
