eKasi will be going into its 6th Season in 2014.
The township drama series started off by commissioning only 5 stories and will commissioning 52 dramas in 2013 . The various production houses selected will collectively produce a total of 52 dramas, each 46 minutes long. Production for the 6th season will run from July 2014.
To further continue eKasi’s development mandate, e.tv is making a national call for script submissions from the general public. From those submissions, e.tv will choose the ones with the most potential and allow their scriptwriters to join e.tv’s script development programme.
Dramas from the 6th season will once again capture the nuances of township life, exploring various narrative themes and film genres (comedy, drama, romance, action, thriller to name a few). Drawing inspiration from the news of the day and our national zeitgeist, these dramas will also explore and include storylines about issues in South Africa’s struggles in the townships. The next season of eKasi remains a development model for both writers and producers that give production companies an opportunity to break through in the industry.
